Are you ready for the 2019 New York City Marathon?

Each year, nearly two million spectators line the streets to watch more than 50,000 runners — from all 50 states and 129 countries — compete in the largest marathon in the world. Taking place this year on November 3, the NYC marathon has been run every year since 1970 (except in 2012, due to Hurricane Sandy) and is organized by New York Road Runners.

If you’re participating in the NYC Marathon this year — or in any marathon, half-marathon, or other race — make sure you’re planning now to bolster and nurture your body leading up to race day and taking steps to help your recovery afterwards.

CityTouch Licensed Massage Therapy offers therapeutic massage, sports massage, and reflexology to support you as you pursue your race day goals.

New York Considers Alternative Treatment Bills

New York State Senate Floor

New York State Senate Floor

New York legislators are considering two identical bills, Assembly Bill 8256 (AB8256) and Senate Bill 5867 (SB5867), which require physicians, when appropriate, to refer or prescribe non-opioid treatment alternatives for neuromusculoskeletal conditions. The bills state massage therapy as one of several alternative treatments that effectively treat pain conditions. Additionally, the bills require physicians to notify patients that insurance may not cover alternative treatments.

As one of the only massage therapy practices that is authorized to accept health insurance in New York City, CityTouch Licensed Massage Therapy supports these bills as they acknowledge that massage therapy is a safe and nonharmful solution for short-term and long-term pain ailments. The bills also elevate the legitimacy of massage as a valid health treatment option.

AB8256 appears to be the bill that will move forward in the legislature. It is currently on the floor of the Assembly for a vote. SB5867 is currently with the Senate Committee on Health.
